INGREDIENTS

Rhuval Active contains OPTIMUM CONCENTRATED PLANT EXTRACTS of Fenugreek, Boswellia, Turmeric (Curcumin), Ginger and Guggul.

  • Fenugreek/Methi (Trigonella foenum-greacum): Trigonella foenum-graecum, commonly known as fenugreek, has been widely cultivated for the culinary and medicinal values of its seeds. Fenugreek seeds are rich source of minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients. The seeds compose ample amounts of soluble dietary fiber. Experimentally, it has been demonstrated that the seeds possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been subject of medical research to investigate and manage metabolic syndromes associated with arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Fenugreek has been shown to help in auto-immune disorders by acting as a mimic of estrogen, which is known to inhibit this condition. Therefore, fenugreek has been investigated as a possible estrogen replacement in the treatment of arthritis. According to Ayurveda, ‘Amavata (ama and vata)’ is responsible for causing problems in the joints and severe joint pains. Fenugreek has multiple uses as it not only causes remission in inflammatory and painful joint conditions but also a useful method to control pain due to ‘Vata'.

  • Boswellia/Salai guggul (Boswellia serrata): Gum-resin extracts of Boswellia serrata have been traditionally used in folk medicine for centuries to treat various chronic inflammatory diseases. The resinous part of Boswellia serrata possesses monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, tetracyclic triterpenic acids and four major pentacyclic triterpenic acids i.e. β-boswellic acid, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid and acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid, responsible for inhibition of pro-inflammatory enzymes. Out of these four boswellic acids, acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid is the most potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme responsible for inflammation. Some studies show that Boswellia serrata can reduce pain and considerably improve knee-joint functions.

  • Turmeric/Curcumin (Curcuma longa): Traditionally used in Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine to treat arthritis, turmeric (curcumin - an extract of turmeric) blocks inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Curcumin is well-established in the medical literature as a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredient. Unlike pharmaceuticals, curcumin acts through multiple pathways and on numerous targets to limit the inflammatory response that underlies both rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis. Several recent studies show that turmeric/curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties and modifies immune system responses.

  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale): Dry Ginger is another useful anti-inflammatory herb. It also improves appetite and good for digestive and respiratory system. Dry ginger remarkably reduce markers of inflammation in the blood and is a very potent analgesic. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger have been known and valued for centuries. As per the Journal of Medicinal Food, during the past 25 years, many laboratories have provided scientific support for the long-held belief that ginger contains constituents with anti-inflammatory properties. The original discovery of ginger's inhibitory effects on prostaglandin biosynthesis in the early 1970s has been repeatedly confirmed. This discovery identified ginger as an herbal medicinal product that shares pharmacological properties with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ginger suppresses prostaglandin synthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2. An important extension of this early work was the observation that ginger also suppresses leukotriene biosynthesis by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase. This pharmacological property distinguishes ginger from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This discovery preceded the observation that dual inhibitors of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase may have a better therapeutic profile and have fewer side effects than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The characterization of the pharmacological properties of ginger entered a new phase with the discovery that a ginger extract derived from Zingiber officinale (family Zingiberaceae) and Alpina galanga (family Zingiberaceae) inhibits the induction of several genes involved in the inflammatory response. These include genes encoding cytokines, chemokines, and the inducible enzyme cyclooxygenase-2. This discovery provided the first evidence that ginger modulates biochemical pathways activated in chronic inflammation.

  • Mukul myrrh/Guggul (Commiphora mukul): Commiphora mukul is a known anti-inflammatory agent used by Ayurveda physicians worldwide. The analgesic and anti-inflammatory action is almost immediate. It has been used in the Ayurveda since time immemorial for the treatment of variety of disorders such as inflammation, gout, rheumatism, obesity, and disorders of lipids metabolism. It is a mixture of phytoconstituents like volatile oil which contains terpenoidal constituents such as monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, diterpenoids, and triterpenoids; steroids; flavonoids; guggultetrols; lignans; sugars; and amino acids.

  • Black Pepper/Maricha (Piper nigrum): The bioavailability of Turmeric/Curcumin is enhanced with other agents such as the Piper nigrum (black pepper) extract. Some studies show that even at low doses, this active phenolic compound in black pepper extract decreases the creation of prostaglandin, which contributes to inflammation.
